THE CURRENT REPORT
Everything you need to know about New Jersey fishing conditions, striped bass activity, tides, and what's biting in the surf and back bays.
FROM CONSTISTENCY TO OPPURTUNITY
APRIL 8th - APRIL 15th
Now it’s real.
Not just patterns.
Not just windows.
Opportunity.
This past week changed things across the state. What was a backwater grind is now spreading and fast.
STRIPER BITE
The push showed up.
Raritan Bay lit up.
Rivers filled in.
Bays started producing across the board.
Migratory fish are now mixing in with residents, and it shows.
- Bigger fish are in the mix now
- Bunker showing = bass right behind them
- Both bait and artificials are producing
- Fish are pushing out of just “winter spots”
Reports had fish into the 40 inch class, with consistent action when you were on them
This isn’t just a pick anymore.
This is the start of something.
THE EXPANSION
Last week = consistency
This week = spread
Fish aren’t locked into one zone anymore.
- Raritan Bay | firing
- Rivers | loaded and holding
- Inlets + beaches | now in play
There are even bass starting to show on the open beaches hitting plugs and bait
That matters.
THE REAL TRIGGER
Bunker.
They showed and everything followed.
Schools of bunker are getting pushed, and when that happens, the bite goes from “work for one” to find them and stay on them.
CONDITIONS
- Water temps pushing mid-40s+
- Stable weather windows = best bite
- Post-full moon movement increased activity
- Wind still shifting the bite day to day
This is no longer just temperature.
Now it’s bait + movement + timing
OTHER ACTION
White perch still steady but becoming background noise now.
More species (like black drum in the south) starting to show as things warm up
Spring is opening up.
THE READ
This is where people mess it up.
They hear “bite is on”…
and fish yesterday’s report.
Meanwhile, the fish are moving every tide.
The guys staying mobile are on them.
The rest are chasing ghosts.
DEAD CURRENT TAKE
The season didn’t “start.”
It broke open.
Now it’s on you to keep up.
